IThe intention
We play for the rooms a concert rarely reaches.
Founded in the fall of 2023 by Sophia, Clive, Andrew and Joel — four friends from the same youth orchestra — and named after their middle school, Frost.
Frost String Quartet is a student-led chamber ensemble from Fairfax County, Virginia. We bring live classical music into memory-care homes, senior residences, nursing centers and hospitals — places where a concert rarely comes. Admission is always free. We are guided by our strings instructor, Mrs. Anne-Marie Patterson.
- I
Practice with purpose
Rehearse seriously and listen closely.
- II
Serve the community
Give free concerts in rooms a concert rarely reaches.
- III
Mentor younger musicians
Return to the classroom and encourage the students coming next.
IIThe rooms this quartet was formed for
We carry the concert
into the room.
11 concerts across 7 partner venues — memory care, senior residences, nursing centres, hospitals and cancer centres. Admission has never been charged.
IIIThe record so far
Four countable things: concerts given, rooms that invited us back, players on the roster, and the price of admission.
Kept plainly,
because it is true.

IVHow it happened
A quartet, assembled
one room at a time.
IChapter
2023
Four friends, one idea
Sophia, Clive, Andrew and Joel met in the same youth orchestra. In the fall of 2023 they formed a quartet and named it after their middle school, Frost. Their strings instructor, Mrs. Anne-Marie Patterson, helped them turn rehearsals into a plan.
IIChapter
2023 – 2024
2023
The first room
Their first concert was at Brightview Memory Care in Annandale, Virginia. The residents’ faces lit up as music filled the room — smiles were everywhere. The quartet returned twice that same school year.
2024
Beyond memory care
The ensemble played for the FCPS Social Workers Annual Conference and kept returning to Brightview. Word travelled between activity directors across the county.
IIIChapter
2025 – 2026
2025
A summer of seven concerts
Chesterbrook Residences, Fairfax Nursing Center, Brightview Senior Living and INOVA Schar Cancer Center in the summer. Then Sibley Memorial Hospital, the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and INOVA Schar again in December — in Santa hats.
2026
Seven musicians
Micaela, Mina and Hyunseo joined the founding four. More players means more rooms, more repertoire, and concerts that can run when school schedules collide.
What began as a simple idea grew into something truly meaningful, reminding us that even small acts can leave a lasting impact.
From the first concert
The residents’ faces lit up as music filled the room — smiles were everywhere.
VMeet the Quartet
Four founders.
Seven musicians.
Four founders from the same youth orchestra, joined in 2026 by three more players — so that concerts can run even when school schedules collide.
VIAway from the concert
The rest of
the week.
Every member plays in a school or youth orchestra somewhere else in the week. On concert days they carry their instruments into memory-care lobbies, nursing centres and hospital atria, and play for free.
VIIIFour on stage, seven on the roster
A quartet performs as four.
Seven of them make that possible.
Two violins, a viola and a cello. Seven players hold those four chairs between them, which is why a date can be found even when school schedules collide.
