Seven students in grades 9 and 10, from schools across the county. They rehearse around orchestra, marching band, cross country and homework — and then they play for free.

The founding four

Founded in the fall of 2023 by Sophia, Clive, Andrew and Joel — four friends from the same youth orchestra — and named after their middle school, Frost.

Violin I

Sophia Wang

McLean High SchoolSophomoreStudies with Emil Chudnovsky

Sophia began piano and violin at age five and studies with Emil Chudnovsky. She is a member of the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras and of the 2025 and 2026 All-Virginia Orchestra. She founded Frost Quartet with fellow orchestra members.

Clive started violin at age nine and studies with Dr. Laura Kobayashi. He plays in the Philharmonic Orchestra at Woodson High School and is an active member of the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras.

Andrew Lam

Thomas Jefferson High School9th gradeStudies with Fang Qi

Andrew began piano at five and viola at nine, and studies with Fang Qi. He has held principal chairs across four American Youth Philharmonic ensembles and is Principal Viola of the 2026 All-Virginia Orchestra. His outreach work focuses on elderly and disabled communities.

Joel is a ninth-grade student from Fairfax, Virginia with six years of cello study. He is an active member of several ensembles and youth orchestras, and performs both as a soloist and in community service settings.

Mina Liu

McLean High School, Class of 2029Class of 2029

Mina began Suzuki violin at age four. She was a finalist in the 2025 Misbin Chamber Music Competition and served as concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra at the 2024 Spring String Thing at James Madison University. She has performed at Washington National Cathedral and George Mason University, and is also an advanced percussionist.

Hyunseo started violin in fourth grade and is concertmaster of his school’s Symphony Orchestra. He took First Prize in the Strings Solo Division of the American Masters Music Award in January 2026.
